2004 Connecticut River “Source to Sea” Cleanup a Huge Success

NORTHFIELD, Mass.—Under the co-sponsorship of the Northfield Mount Hermon School, area businesses and companies, and environmental organizations, the “Source to Sea” cleanup of the Connecticut River and surrounding environs on October 2 was a tremendous success, yielding two large dumpsters and a two-ton-truck’s worth of garbage, appliances, and junk. The waste was gathered from the shores of the Connecticut, Green, Deerfield, and Millers Rivers, the Mill Brook, and from the Montague Plains.

In addition to co-sponsoring the project, 75 NMH students took part, as well as students from Northfield Elementary, Linden Hill School, and Deerfield Academy, and other area residents. The National Guard’s 181st Engineers Battalion helped move larger objects, and the Town of Greenfield removed all the waste that was collected in its town. The Northeast Utilities’ Northeast Generation Services Company and B&M Railroad provided the dumpsters.
