Brattleboro Student in Presidential Scholars Program
NORTHFIELD, Mass.—Anne Coleman of Brattleboro, a senior at
Northfield Mount Hermon School, has been selected as a candidate
in the 2004 Presidential Scholars Program. Coleman is the daughter
of Nancy Haydock and Jeremy Coleman.
Students are selected on the basis of exceptional performance
on the College Board SAT, as well as superior academic and
artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character, and
involvement in community and school activities. The 2,600
candidates were chosen from among nearly 2.8 million students who
will graduate from U.S. high schools this year. Now in its 40th
year, the program bestows one of the highest honors on graduating
high school seniors.
At NMH, Coleman has been involved in concert choir, outreach,
yearbook, junior varsity lacrosse and soccer, and is taking four
advanced placement courses this year. She has been part of the
Governor’s Institute of Vermont Asian Studies program and will go
to China for three weeks this summer through to a Freeman
Foundation grant.
A panel of educators will select 500 semifinalists from the
2,600 candidates in April. The Commission on Presidential Scholars
will select up to 141 scholars in May. The Scholars will be
honored for their accomplishments in June in Washington, D.C.
Northfield Mount Hermon School is an independent, coeducational
college preparatory school in western Massachusetts. NMH is known
for its diverse and talented students, innovative academic
programs, tradition of putting values into action, and innumerable
opportunities for growth.
