110th Sacred Concert Celebrated at Northfield Mount Hermon on Mother’s
Day
NORTHFIELD , Mass. — Northfield Mount Hermon School will celebrate spring,
Mother’s Day, and one of the school’s oldest and most cherished
traditions, the Concert of Sacred Music, on Sunday, May 9 at 2:30 pm in
the Auditorium on the Northfield campus.
Many NMH alumni return year after year to join faculty, staff, and
students in presenting the musical program, which is under the direction
of Sheila L. Heffernon, director of choral music, and Steven
Bathory-Peeler, director of orchestral music. The Concert Choir, Symphony
Orchestra, NMH Singers, Select Women’s Ensemble, and Alumni Choir will
perform selections that range from Sibelius’s We Would Be One to Randall
Thompson’s Alleluia, to Peter Louis van Dijk’s Horizons, a lullaby based
on South Africa ’s encounters with Dutch conquerors. The concert also
includes a performance of Heffernon’s Little Lamb.
Preceding the concert, Reverend Elizabeth Stookey will lead an 11 am m
ultifaith service on Round Top, the landmark burial site of school founder
D.L. Moody on the Northfield campus (rain location will be the Olivia
Music Building). The public is welcome to both the service and the Concert
of Sacred Music, which is free of charge. For more information, contact
