After a review process that included an application and interviews with dorm staff, Dean of Students Nicole Hager announced which rising juniors and seniors had been selected for 2010-2011 student leader positions. Student leadership is a great honor, but it also comes with significant responsibilities. Among other duties, students must serve as role models for other students, help in dorms, and aid new NMHers with their transition into school life.
This year, the deans decided to open SL positions in the 9th grade dorms to rising juniors. Although very similar to the selection process for rising seniors, sophomores could only apply for a position if they had been nominated by a faculty member and had been invited to apply by the deans. Next year, these younger student leaders will have the same title and responsibilities as their senior counterparts. Juniors will also have to go through a review process if they want to continue as student leaders in their senior year.
The eight day students selected as student leaders will be matched with new 9th and 10th grade students. The day student program, which is in its second year, is designed to help new day students integrate into the NMH community.
