International Travel Updates

Northfield Mount Hermon is working to help the international members of our school community cope with the confusion created by the White House's executive order instituting new restrictions on immigration and international travel.

We will post updates as needed.

• Executive order still blocked
Feb. 13: The ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has refused to reinstate the travel ban. The possibility remains that the case could advance to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Judge temporarily blocks executive order
The New York Times reported on Feb. 3 that “A federal judge in Seattle on Friday temporarily blocked President Trump’s week-old immigration order from being enforced nationwide, reopening America’s door to visa holders from seven predominantly Muslim countries.”  The White House issued a statement the same day saying that the Justice Department will appeal the Seattle judge’s action.

The complicated legal status of the travel ban is made clearer in this Feb. 5 New York Times article, “Where Trump’s Travel Ban Stands.”

Head of School Peter Fayroian's Feb. 1 communication to the NMH community includes links to the executive order, advice for international travelers, and links to resources for further information. Read the letter.
