Find Purpose in Your Potential

At Northfield Mount Hermon, students are empowered to find their purpose as they stretch their intellect and deepen their compassion within a community that believes in their potential to become leaders who will make the world more equitable and just.

Finding Our Purpose

NMH has challenged me to do better, to try to make things better. I don't want to be somebody who leaves anything on the table in academics, or settles for a worse situation or environment than I know it can be.

Alex is working on a documentary about food systems and their environmental effects as part of a course on social entrepreneurship.

Finding Our Purpose

Coming to this school has given me a lot of leadership opportunities, and a better passion for school and learning. I think people are drawn to NMH who want to be here and want to learn.

Ella is a world-class rower, but at NMH, she’s able to pursue a range of other passions, too, from film to fiber arts to Circle of Sisters, an affinity group for girls of color.

Finding Our Purpose

It's really easy to do athletics and be part of other things as well. I’m busy, but my coaches are very understanding. There's this understanding and willingness to let me be fully engaged in everything that I'm interested in.

At NMH, Sofia has been able to pursue her passions, from music to athletics to academics, without feeling like any one interest has to take a back seat to others.

Living Our Mission

Act with Humanity

At NMH, learning happens in a million ways, every day, in every part of our students’ lives.

Dynamic community events challenge students to think about the world around them and their role in it while developing the skills necessary to be a force for good.

Volunteer Opportunities

In early February, NMH celebrates Founder’s Day to honor its founder, D.L. Moody. It's part of a weeklong series of activities.

Each year, we center learning around a theme that connects to one of our core NMH principles.

The Visiting Journalist Series gives students direct access to leading voices in the field of journalism.

Our Takeaways

“At NMH, I feel like I figured out who I am as a person. I realized that I like directing plays. I like to play Ultimate Frisbee. I’m really passionate about social justice. I also saw how academics can lead to productive conversations about the real world.”

— NMH Student

“I love how passionate NMH teachers are, how they’re not willing to teach or have relationships with students in just one certain way. They make learning not just about learning; they make it about knowing and understanding.”

— NMH Student

“NMH was a really special place when I attended, and it is still a really special place. My son connected with the school right away when we visited. He’s a sporty kid but also academic and has artistic interests. NMH checked all those boxes for him.”

Explore Our Campus

Gilder Center

Home to our math and science departments, Gilder is the “greenest” building on the campus and was designed to reflect and support NMH’s innovative, forward-thinking math and science curriculum.

More than 400 writable whiteboard surfaces — including desktops and walls — give students the flexibility to try out ideas before committing them to paper or a computer screen.

Students design, tinker, code, and build in the Guild Fabrication Lab, bringing their ideas to life while learning by making and doing.

Rhodes Arts Center
Rhodes Arts Center

Affectionately known as “the RAC,” Rhodes is the hub for visual and performing arts at NMH.

It boasts a concert hall, two theaters, dance studios, an art gallery, classrooms, music practice rooms, and art studios.

Student-led productions are staged in Chiles Theater, with students performing on stage or working behind the scenes on the technical crew, in costume and makeup, or playing in the orchestra pit.

Memorial Chapel
Memorial Chapel

Built in 1894, the chapel serves as a community gathering space, where students, faculty, and staff make time to offer reflections of gratitude, celebrate milestones, and connect with purpose.

The chapel sits at a central point on campus, with sweeping views of the Connecticut River.

Blake Student Center
Blake Student Center

Blake is a central hangout for students, with meeting spaces, a snack bar, and the school store.

It’s also home to the Office of Multicultural Affairs, student life programs, and our work and service-learning programs.

Gym + Fitness Center
Gym + Fitness Center

Opened in 2021, the 6,000-square-foot Calagione Fitness Center has the latest cardio and weight training equipment available to the entire NMH community.

Certified athletic trainers and nutrition experts are available to help students work toward their fitness and wellness goals, whether they’re looking to achieve their peak performance level for competition or just beginning their fitness journey.

Alumni Hall
Alumni Hall

The campus dining center, Alumni Hall is known for its top-notch food — some of it direct from the NMH farm. The Dining Services staff prioritizes buying local food whenever possible.

Sustainability practices are incorporated into every aspect of Alumni Hall, from “trayless dining,” which reduces waste, to composting of food scraps.
