The GV won the game, 3-1, on goals by Megan Burns '12, Emily Lefebvre '11, and Rachel Cope '13. Coach Moriarty left the sidelines in the second half to have a run for each team, while former faculty member and girls' soccer coach Mark "Commander" Jander '50 coached the alums.
NMH heads off to Cushing on Wed, Sept. 15, for the season opener at 3:00pm, then comes home to play Westminster at 3:00pm on Saturday.
September 11, 2010 - NMH hosted 7 teams - Deerfield Academy, Kingswood-Oxford, Miss Porter's School, Vermont Academy, Wilbraham & Monson Academy, Willison Northampton and Westminster - at its annual Playday on the lower fields this afternoon and came away with two wins in its three 30-minute games.
An experienced NMH side, which features 12 returning players and some exciting new talent, took control of the midfield early against Miss Porter's and finally converted steady pressure into the game's only goal when new soph Rachel Cope scored on a header off of tri-captain Emily Lefebvre's corner kick in the 19th minute. NMH had little time to celebrate, however, as a speedy Kingswood-Oxford forward slipped through the defense on the left side of the penalty area in the first minute of Game #2 and tucked a slow rolling ball into the far corner, a lead that would hold up for the next 29 minutes as NMH gradually pushed forward and created chances but managed no shots.
In their 3rd and final game, a more determined NMH dominated in all areas of the field against Vermont Academy, with Rachel Cope converting a cross from four-year veteran Orelia Jonathan in the 4th minute and then another Lefebvre corner at 24:00 for a 2-0 win. Cope and junior tri-captain Olivia Walsh were named NMH's two All Stars for the day.
