Walsh, who was Jack Siedlecki's last captain at Amherst in 1996, has been in the coaching business since his playing days ended. He was an assistant at Pomona-Pitzer College for the 1997 campaign before serving as inside linebacker, assistant special teams coordinator and head strength and conditioning coach at Georgetown University from 1998 to 2001.
Walsh moved on to Tufts University in March of 2001. John Walsh, who spent seven years as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Tufts University, always coached an elite defense that was at the top of the NESCAC conference. His Tufts players were nationally ranked in scoring defense four different seasons and he coached 17 All-NESCAC players since becoming an assistant at the Meford, Mass., school. He also coached the defensive backs at Tufts. Walsh earned his master in educational studies from Tufts University in 2005.
In 2008, Walsh joined the Yale University Football Program and his former college coach Jack Siedlecki. John worked with the outside linebackers and also worked with the special teams units. The 2008 Yale Defense was ranked #1 in the country. Walsh worked with an elite staff and a tremendous group of defensive players.
Throughout his tenure as a college football coach, Walsh has recruited the entire country searching for the best student-athletes. He will continue to recruit and search for the best student-athletes to join the football program at Northfield Mount Hermon.
Walsh will join the History Department Faculty at NMH and also serve as the Head Football Coach. His wife Amy, son Grant and daughter Camilla are excited about joining the NMH family.
