It is with great sadness, that his family announces the sudden death, from heart failure, of Robert H. MacKinnon, on Tuesday, July 6, at the age of 74, in Cape Cod, MA. Robert, known as Bob, is survived by his wife, Ilse; his daughter, Elizabeth Henrici; his stepchildren, Chase and Peter Livingston; six grandchildren; his sisters, Lois Davis and Jean Rogers; and his brothers, William and Richard MacKinnon. Bob MacKinnon was born in Schenectady, NY, in 1935, and after 1953, lived in Fort Wayne, IN, until his graduation from college. He attended high school at Massachusetts's Northfield Mount Hermon School (1953), and long served, with great distinction, on the Board of Trustees of that school until earlier this year. He was also an alumnus of Yale University (Magna Cum Laude, 1957) and Harvard Law School (1960). During the early 1960s, Bob served in the U.S. Army and its Reserves. Bob was a retired partner of international law firm Shearman & Sterling. He joined the firm in New York in 1961, was elected to the partnership in 1969, retired in 2001, and served as Of Counsel until 2007. A respected leader and a truly global practitioner, Bob was a founder of the firm's bankruptcy and reorganization practice, headed the private finance and corporate reorganization practices, served on the Management Committee and the Policy Committee, worked in the New York, Paris, Hong Kong, and Singapore offices, and was managing partner of the Brussels office. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Messages of condolence may be sent to the MacKinnon family at PO Box 526, North Truro, MA 02652. The family has requested that any contributions in Bob's memory be sent to Northfield Mount Hermon, One Lamplighter Way, Mount Hermon, MA 01354, or to the American Heart Association Memorial, 1 Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.
