The NMH boys crew offers two seasons of competitive rowing for rowers and coxswains who want to challenge themselves physically and mentally. Experienced oarsmen join a team that will push them to further athletic development and success, while novice oarsmen learn the skills necessary to row and eventually race with confidence and poise. The Connecticut River provides an outstanding venue for our program, with an on-campus boathouse and a beautiful ten-mile stretch of water that we are fortunate to have largely to ourselves in the spring and fall.
In the fall, athletes try out for several varsity fours that compete in crew regattas throughout the Northeast region, including the Head of the Charles and the Head of the Fish. NMH crews in the last decade have been consistently strong, with several top-ten finishes at the Head of the Charles and victories at the Head of the Connecticut, New Hampshire championships, Tail of the Fish, and New England Junior championships.
In the spring, we field three eights to race against many of the elite crews in New England and compete in the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association (NEIRA) championships. NMH varsity crews in the last decade have earned victories against every top NEIRA program, and consistently place in the top half of the league, renowned as the deepest and fastest rowing league in the country.
NMH has long graduated excellent oarsmen to some of the nation’s best schools and strongest rowing programs. NMH oarsmen in recent years have matriculated at Williams, Yale, Wisconsin, Gonzaga, MIT, Wesleyan, Bates, Dartmouth, Syracuse, Wellesley, Navy, Columbia, Boston University, and the University of San Diego; a list that grows each year as our alumni expand the scope of their reach around the country and around the world.
