Alumni Profiles & College Placement

NMH’s strong academic reputation, caliber of play, and competitive schedule attract significant interest from college recruiters across the country. As you can see from the profiles below, our alumni have gone on to success in the college ranks at the NCAA Division I and III levels, as well as in professional hockey.

Boston University

Ryan Monaghan '04
Wilmette, IL29GP-4G-4A-8P

Ryan enrolled in Northfield Mount Hermon in the fall of 2002, and repeated his junior year after transferring from New Trier High School.  Originally a defenseman, Ryan was asked to play both forward and defense while here, and did so valiantly.  He is currently a valuable member of the Boston University hockey team.

Brown University

Sean Hurley '03
Rutland, VT   31GP-3G-18A-21P

Sean attended Northfield Mount Hermon for two years, and was a standout athlete in two sports, including quarterbacking the football team. He currently plays defense at Brown University, and is among the team's leading scorers from the blueline. In between NMH and Brown, Sean spent a season playing for the Chicago Steel in the USHL, and continuing his education at a local university.  Sean was the only freshman to be named All-Ivy League Honorable Mention following the 2004-05 season.

Yale University

David Germain '03
Quincy, MA27GP-0G-1A-1P

Dave attended NMH for a Postgraduate year, and led the team in scoring during the 2002-03 season. Following a successful PG campaign, Dave was admitted to Yale for the fall of 2003, but deferred for a year to play a year in the Eastern Junior Hockey League. After leading his Manchester Monarchs to the EJHL championship, and leading all playoff performers in points, Dave enrolled at Yale.

University of Vermont

Graham Mink '98
Stowe, VT   76GP-28G-18A-46P

Graham attended NMH for a postgraduate year in 1997-98, earning a hockey scholarship to the University of Vermont. After three strong seasons at UVM, Graham moved on to the professional ranks, signing a contract with the Washington Capitals organization. After two plus strong seasons in the AHL, Graham spent time with the Capitals in 2004 at the NHL level. Due to the current NHL lockout, Graham is currently serving as captain of the Capitals AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates.

Boston University (Fall '06)

Brian Strait '06
Waltham, MA 

Brian attended NMH for his freshman and sophomore seasons, and played on the Varsity team both seasons. Shortly after his sophomore year at NMH, he committed to Boston University, and will be attending on a full scholarship starting in the fall of 2006. He played in the National Development Program in Ann Arbor, MI, and served as the captain of the Under 17 team.  Midway through the season, Brian was asked to move up to the Under 18 team, and finish the season with the older club. In June 2006 NHL draft, he was picked by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

UMASS-Lowell

Brian Bova '02
North Andover, MA   31GP-5G-0A-5P

Brian was a three-year standout at the NMH before moving on to join the UMass-Lowell River Hawk squad under coach Blaise MacDonald. Brian led the entire Division I prep league in goals scored his senior year. He was then selected to play in the New England Prep School all-star game and was voted NEPSIHA All-New England First Line as a senior. Brian is a top River Hawk recruit whose progress will continue to be monitored by NHL scouts.

Ryan Foster '01
Lynn, MA 

Ryan played three years at NMH. He served as team captain during his junior and senior years and was selected to play in the 2001 New England prep school all-star game. Ryan joined a highly regarded BC Eagle program under coach Jerry York and is continuing his studies in the Carroll School of Management.

Willie Levesque '98
Vineyard Haven, MA 132GP-37G-43A-80P

Willie was a three-sport standout at NMH, participating in hockey, cycling, ultimate frisbee, and serving as captain for one season in each sport before departing for the U.S. Under-18 team. Following his stint in the U.S. National Development Program, Willie landed at Northeastern University in the high-flying Hockey East. While under the tutelage of coach Bruce Crowder at Northeastern, Willie was selected in the fourth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks. 

Colgate University

Bryan Long '97
Longmeadow, MA 123GP-15G-29A-44P

Bryan enrolled at NMH as a repeat junior, and served as Assistant captain as a senior.  Bryan was named All-Scholastic at Hockey Night in Boston following his senior year, and went on to play four years at Colgate University.  Upon graduation, he spent some time playing in the ECHL in the Ottawa Senators organization, before returning to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Northeastern University

Mike Jozefowicz '97
Toms River, NJ   101GP-18G-48A-66P

Mike enrolled at NMH as a repeat junior, and in his senior year at NMH, Mike was the team's MVP, given the school's Valentine Award for Male Athlete of the Year in 1997, and named New England Prep School All-Star.  Following four strong years at Northeaster, Mike spent some time in the ECHL in the Anaheim Mighty Ducks organization.

Rensselaer Polytechnic University

Brian Pothier '96
 
New Bedford, MA 142GP-17G-57A-74P

Brian was traded from the Atlanta Thrashers to the Ottawa Senators in 2002. As a member of the IHL's Orlando Solar Bears, he was named IHL's Rookie of the Year and IHL's U.S.-born Rookie of the Year for the 2000-01 season. At RPI he was the 1999-2000 team captain and named Second Team East All-American that year. While at NMH, Brian was named MVP of both the 1995 Chowder Cup and the 1994 Bay State Games, and was honored as the top defenseman at the 1995 Hockey Night in Boston.

University of Vermont

Matt Sanders '96
 
Saugus, MA99GP-22G-18A-40P

Matt Sanders played forward at top-ranked University of Vermont, where he was named ECAC/Bauer Rookie of the Week after a three-goal weekend and was a leading scorer overall. He played at NMH for two years and led the team in scoring his senior year with 29 goals and 21 assists. Matt was named New England Prep School All-Star.

Middlebury College

Mark Spence '94

Featured in Sports Illustrated’s "Faces in the Crowd," Mark was named the NCAA Division III Player of the Year for 1998. During his years at Middlebury, Mark led his team to four consecutive titles and a 25-game unbeaten streak. In both the 1995 and 1996 title games, he scored the winning goal.

Providence College

Nick Sinerate '94

Hockey East Player of the Week in February of 1996, Nick Sinerate played left wing at Providence College. In 1994 he was named Most Valuable Freshman there. Nick spent his postgraduate year at NMH, where he was captain and named Second Team All-New England.

 

Yale University

Chris Barbanti '91

Chris enjoyed two stellar seasons at NMH following an equally impressive stint at Saugus High School. Chris, an NMH Hockey "cornerstone," played for coach Chris Serino while at NMH before moving on to the Yale Bulldogs and coach Tim Taylor.
