Maine Regional Get-Together Wrap-up

Greetings classmates, far and wide,

Last August, eight of us met in mid-Coast Maine for the second regional gathering planned to get us reconnected and ready for our 25th reunion in June. Suzy Smith Long, Juan Conde and I planned this one as a way to draw as many New England residents (summer and winter) as possible to one of the most gorgeous spots on the coast, Newagen Inn on the tip of Westport Island. Sure, it was a tough time to break away from summer activity and already-planned holidays, but given the fantastic day we spent, we all wanted to spread the goodness, to let you know you were all in our thoughts and minds, if even at 6-degrees of separation. (This, I'll add, is one of the most interesting outcomes of these events so far. Our lives may have followed their own tangents over the last 25 years, but they have stayed eerily close, via geography, spouses, profession or otherwise.)

Suzy and I met up early to orchestrate at the Inn a little, to feel the flow and place the lobster rolls, and get our kids going on a stack of arts and crafts activities that wouldn't have fit into Crossley. The last time Suzy and I spent time together was at my wedding 10 years ago, but it couldn't have felt like 10 minutes, so cool. Chris Uhrich and wife Julie arrived from a few miles down the road; Blaze Stevens Krause and husband Philip breezed in with Emma (Blaze II) in tow. Kristin Kellom bore the NMH banner and was amazingly patient with us despite her relative maturity and wisdom as a member of Class of '80. Juan Conde pulled up with Mike Rickard and Izzy Ramirez all the way from Manhattan. We drank lemonade and ate lobster rolls and pink hotdogs--what one does on a sparkling afternoon in Maine--and kept going back to our time at NMH, what it meant and how alive it is for us today. The afternoon ended with plans for more time together, soon--in some cases even before we see each other in June. New contacts were made, both social and professional, and the feeling was so good. I'm sending you my best; I can't tell you how much I look forward to seeing more of you all at our 25th.
