Spring Letter

April 22, 2008

Dear Classmate:

The class of 1960 was officially dubbed the “Great Class of 1960” about the time we celebrated our 25th reunion. Among many good reasons for this name change was our record of financial generosity to our school.

Our next major milestone as a class—our 50th reunion—is fast approaching. There’s probably no better time to reflect on how our NMH experience has affected our lives since 1960. The academic challenges, the faculty and staff who supported us, our pride in working hard, our accomplishments in sports and the arts, the friendships made, the fun times, and even the tough times—such formative experiences helped make us who we are today.

To continue proving that we deserve our moniker, we, the Great Class of 1960, need to step up again with our financial support of the school. Two classmates, Conrad Plimpton and Albie Booth, have jumped in and issued challenges to us. To review:

BUCKET 1: Conrad will give $100,000 if we collectively give $200,000 to the Annual Fund over the two fiscal years ending June 30, 2008, and June 30, 2009. (NMH depends on Annual Fund support for nearly eight percent of its operating budget.)

In announcing Conrad’s challenge, we were confident we could meet it based on our generous support of the Annual Fund in combined fiscal years ’06 and ’07. We’re counting on our regular donors to increase their annual giving, and we need our occasional and non-donors to jump in with gifts and pledges. This is the right time to get on board.

BUCKET 2: Albie will give $50,000 if we collectively commit to $100,000 for our capital gifts project, the Great Class of 1960 Endowed Scholarship Fund. (This fund will provide funds for scholarships in our name, in perpetuity.)

Albie has great faith that many classmates will respond to his challenge, knowing it is over and above increased annual giving. His challenge can be met with gifts and pledges payable for up to five years following the date of the pledge.

We announced in our previous letter that there will be a third “bucket” for planned gifts. There will be more information later about this crucial element of our 50th-reunion gift. Planned gifts provide our greatest hope of reaching our ambitious goals.

Please review the enclosed response form, giving serious consideration to how you can best raise your own sights and do your part to meet our challenges. Remember: each challenger will give $1 for every $2 that you give and pledge. Make a two-year commitment to the Annual Fund and a five-year commitment to the scholarship fund.

Think with your heart! We benefited from the gifts of alums who went before us. Let the Great Class of 1960 live up to its name and lead the way for the classes that follow us.
