Reunion Planning

September 13, 2007

Dear Fellow Classmate:

I wanted to bring you up to date on recent Reunion planning activities which I will discuss further in this letter. I also wanted to share with you that we are beginning to plan a Reunion Planning Committee meeting on campus in October. There is still a lot of planning activity surrounding our 50th, and more to come as we are now less than three years away from the big occasion!

First of all, I am sure you know that we have a particularly strong and loyal class and many of us have been active as graduates in school planning and activities. I hope that, as we approach our 50th, each of us will reflect on our lives and the impact NMH has had on what we have accomplished. Now, we have the opportunity to think about how we can help our school move forward at this critical time in its history. We are a cohesive class and I know we can make a difference in the continuing success of Northfield Mount Hermon. With the recent campus consolidation, we have a much more secure foundation for our institution. We can help make this foundation even more secure as we ponder our 50th Reunion Class Gift. It is our opportunity, individually and collectively, to do our share to increase the all-important resources needed to keep NMH moving forward. Let’s also do it for a new level of pride in the Great Class of ’60!

In previous meetings of the Reunion Planning Committee, it was decided to create a Great Class of 1960 Scholarship Fund for those in the class who would like to support the School’s financial aid program through an endowed gift.  No dollar target has been set, as yet, neither for this Fund nor for our overall gift.  Classmates are, of course, encouraged to give toward our reunion capital fund whether you prefer scholarships or something else. The School’s highest funding priority is scholarships, thus, that was our choice.  But please give to whatever institutional priority about which you feel most passionate.

You might like to know in Fiscal Year 2007, which ended June 30; the Mount Hermon men contributed $49,230 to the NMH Annual Fund and the Northfield woman, $37,133. Our Fiftieth Reunion Gift Fund as of July 13, 2007 totals $629,154, including all contributions since July 1, 2005 to the Annual Fund, our 1960 Scholarship Fund and any planned gifts.

Suzy Chalfant Kendrick, Marv Kelley, Bruce McClintock, Betsey Dickson of NMH and I met on July 16 at Suzy's office in Burlington, MA to discuss planning for The Great Class of 1960's 50th Reunion Campaign. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss strategies for our 50th Reunion Gift and begin to make assignments for personal conversations with classmates. Starting shortly, some of you may be asked, as part of a personal visit, to consider a Reunion Gift that includes three components: the Annual Fund, the Capital Fund and a Planned Gift.  So we are off and rolling.

Please make your commitment now to attend our 50th Reunion. Being as cohesive a class as we are, we can set a record for attendance at a 50th. We also hope to set a record with our total 50th Reunion Gift.

Very truly yours,
Albie Booth for the Great Class of 1960
