LET’S CELEBRATE IN 2008

Hello Classmate of ’53,

Once again we are focusing on our upcoming Northfield Mount Hermon reunion—our 55th—to be held the weekend of June 5–8, 2008. Mark this date on your calendars now.

Some of you came back to NMH for the first time for our big 50th in 2003. Good for you! Others, for various reasons, missed the opportunity to join us then. Now, we look forward to seeing all of you this coming June. It just never gets old, but we do and each chance to get together becomes more meaningful and memorable.

The reunion workshop in September was quite enlightening to those of us on the reunion committee who were able to attend. We were housed at Moore Cottage at Northfield and the workshop was held on the Mount Hermon campus. At one of the sessions, we were introduced to five young students. Each spoke openly and honestly about why they chose NMH, what they do there, some of the programs they’re involved in both on campus and in the community at large, as well as their plans and hopes for their future. They, very humorously and intelligently fielded some pretty tough questions from the alums. It was refreshing to see that the young people today at NMH are really not any different from us when we were there. Think about it.

Some of us also had the opportunity to go through the Rhodes Center for the Arts to be completed by the fall of 2008. “Wow” says it all. It’s absolutely phenomenal. The design was meant to incorporate and bring in touches of both the campuses including bricks to match the exterior of the Auditorium on Northfield.

Come on back in June as distinguished (and we are!) alums who appreciate and respect those experiences and lessons we learned from our times at NMH.

We hope—weather permitting—to hold our reunion class meeting on Round Top at the Northfield campus. The school will bus us over. What better place to renew our spiritual heritage!

We’d like to hear from you and have you share some interesting anecdotes about anything/anyone (roommates, teachers, social blunders, whatever) that impressed, tickled or just in some way settled somewhere in your memories from those years at NMH. If you would e-mail or snail mail those to us we’ll compile them and have them available for you all at our 55th reunion next June.

 

The school is also putting together some audio anecdotes from alums during reunion weekend so this is another way the class of ’53 can be a part of the tradition.

So—come on back next June!. Let’s have fun! Let’s renew and share old memories and bonds! Let’s forge some new ones! Let’s enjoy!
