About NMH Future
President Mueller Accepts Position in Hong Kong
April 5, 2005
To the NMH Community,
I wanted to let you know I will be the next Head of School of
Hong Kong International School (HKIS) beginning this summer.
The search process formally concluded on Monday. Claire and
I are enthusiastic and energized. HKIS is an outstanding international
school with an extraordinarily diverse student body. It has
2,600 day students from pre-kindergarten through high school.
In many ways it reminds me of Northfield Mount Hermon.
Many of you know we lived in Hong Kong in the 1980s and 1990s
when we were in the Foreign Service. Our sons Jon and Eric both
attended HKIS, and I served twice on the school's board of
trustees, and as the chair in 1997-98 just before coming to NMH.
I will continue at NMH through June, so this is by no means
farewell. We will move to Hong Kong early in August.
We would like very much to keep up our strong connections with
NMH. As an alumnus and as a former Head of School and President,
I am committed to the success of our new vision for NMH. Claire
is an honorary member of the class of 1962. I support a
continuation of our faculty exchange program—the
Kenyons and Ewings participated last year. And we have many
alumni who live in HK. There will be many ways to stay in touch
given both schools' commitment to global connections.
We look forward to seeing many of you as you travel to Hong Kong
in the coming years!
Best,
Richard
