About NMH Today
Facilities
Northfield Mount Hermon sits on the banks of the Connecticut
River in a beautiful New England setting with extensive
resources. It encompasses privately maintained country roads,
ponds, a watershed and reservoir, and a working farm with a
maple sugar and a cider house.
One of NMH's greatest attributes is the large array of
facilities available to students.
The online library system includes an advanced media center and
information commons area and houses more than 70,000 print and nonprint materials, which are indexed by an online catalog.
A state-of-the-art digital language lab opened in spring 2004.
The entire campus, including student rooms, is wired on a
high-speed computer network.
NMH's current arts facilities include 10 music practice rooms, an
electronic music studio, six teaching studios, a combined black-and-white and color darkroom, and a dance studio and a secondary
rehearsal space with a sprung floor. Ground has been broken on The Rhodes Center for the Arts, a 63,000 square foot building slated to open in fall 2008.
Athletics facilities include an all-weather 400-meter track, 11
playing fields, 15 tennis courts, two gyms with a six-lane pool
and fitness center, indoor batting cage, ice rink, wrestling
facility with two full-size mats, boathouse and crew dock,
a nine-hole golf course, and miles of trails for cross-country
skiing, running, and mountain biking.
The Blake Student Center houses a full snack bar and grill,
meeting rooms, lounges, and game rooms.
Faculty members and their families live with students in the
student houses. Two new cottage-style dorms opened in September 2005.
Alumni Hall, the dining hall, is centrally located.
O'Connor Health Center is an accredited hospital with 24-hour service. The medical staff includes a resident physician, three full-time psychologists, health educators, nurses, and an X-ray technician.
The NMH Task Force for Sustainability supports plant facilities staff to ensure an environmentally sustainable approach to campus operations.
