NMH Trustee Committee to Plan
Uses for
Northfield
Campus
NORTHFIELD,
Mass.
—The Northfield Mount Hermon School Board of Trustees
has established the Northfield Stewardship Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Working closely with school president Richard W. Mueller, class of 1962, the
trustee committee will lead and oversee management of the
Northfield
campus and plan alternative uses for its facilities.
Trustee Carol Ramsey, class of 1970, will serve as chair. Experts in a variety
of fields will advise and assist the committee. The first meeting of the
committee was held on May 26.
A separate advisory group will
be formed to work with the board and President Mueller. Members will be chosen
to provide a range of experience and knowledge to advise the school in its
deliberations and to provide feedback.
In addition, the school will
remain in close communication with the Town of
Northfield
to assure that both the school’s and the community’s
interests are well served. President Mueller has been meeting with town
officials as well as others in
Franklin
County
and the
Pioneer
Valley
The Northfield Mount Hermon
Board of Trustees recognizes its special responsibility in identifying uses for
the campus that serve the school’s mission, educational vision, and financial
needs. Two generous alumni donors, David Bolger ’50 and Mary Heist ’49, have
already helped fund extensive renovation and restoration of the exterior of
school founder Dwight L. Moody’s birthplace on the corner of
Moody Street
and
Highland Avenue.
Northfield Mount Hermon is an
independent, coeducational college preparatory school in western Massachusetts.
NMH enrolls boarding and day students in grades 9–12 and postgraduate, and is
known for its innovative academic programs and diverse and talented student
body. In January 2004 the NMH Board of Trustees decided to reduce the school’s
enrollment from over 1,000 to 600–750 and to consolidate from two campuses to
one by September 2005.
