NMH Master Planning

The architectural firm Sasaki Associates of Boston has helped us develop the first stages of master planning for the Mount Hermon campus. Together we are developing short- and long-term plans.

Campus Landscape Goals

• Preserve and enhance the unique landscapes that form campus identity
• Connect to the landscape at a variety of scales
• Develop an entry that provides a vivid first impression of the campus
• Establish an identifiable, significant arrival point within the campus
• Create coherent and usable spaces that are central to a student's experience
• Establish a plan for landscape conservation and management
• Demonstrate sensitivity to NMH's historic and cultural fabric coupled with awareness of the need to bring the past into the present
• Create a vision tempered by financial and logistical realism
• Reflect experience in interpreting educational philosophy
• Demonstrate high energy and a sense of excellence
• Enhance the residential experience outside the classroom. "All

• Create stronger relationship between interior spaces and the exterior landscape

Existing and Future Buildings Goals

• Accommodate the near-term facility needs triggered by consolidation to a single campus, including the facilities for the arts, athletics, and admission
• Allocate space for long-term facility needs, including academic spaces, library, administration, athletics, and student and faculty housing
• Plan for the long-term replacement of outdated campus buildings
• Use new building projects to make improvements to the campus landscape

Circulation and Parking Goals

• Enhance the beauty of the campus walking and driving experiences
• Create a circulation system that encourages walking and discourages driving within the campus
• Improve way-finding for visitors
• Eliminate redundant and excessive paving throughout the campus
• Increase safety in areas of heavy pedestrian use
• Provide necessary car, service, and emergency vehicle access to all buildings
• Provide parking proximate to specific uses in consolidated lots
