From its founding NMH has embraced diversity, and our commitment to multiculturalism persists today. This is reflected in our students, who come from big cities and small towns from all over the world: Roommates may hail from the mountains of Katmandu, a suburb of Chicago, or an apartment in the Bronx. Recognizing and celebrating cultural, racial, socioeconomic, spiritual, and personal differences is part of what makes the NMH experience so meaningful.
And taking that perspective and shining it outward, students learn they can right wrongs in the wider world. With help from faculty and on their own, they have raised money and awareness for countless causes—from wearing a bandana and refraining from speaking to protest bullying of GLBTQ students on the Day of Silence to raising money for building libraries in Afghanistan. Here classmates and teachers join in making the world a better place.
